SAYING GOODBYE

LUKE 9:57-62

Saying goodbye to loved ones, favourite places, or jobs is challenging.

Jesus explains the price of being His disciple in Luke 9:57–62. A potential follower wished to return home and bid his loved ones farewell. Jesus retorted that no one who puts his hands on the plough and looks back is fit to follow him (vv. 61–62). Is He requesting that His followers bid farewell to everything and every cherished relationship?

The word goodbye in English has no precise translation into Chinese. This word’s two translated Chinese characters actually imply “see you again.” Although becoming a disciple of Christ may occasionally result in rejection from others, it does not imply that we must say goodbye to all of our previous connections. God wants us to follow Him on His terms. Then, we will be able to see others clearly once more.

Let Him be our first priority in life.

🙏🏻 Jesus, help us not to place anything or anyone before You.
