JOHN 1:14
The nativity scene presentation was his favourite Christmas tradition as a child. He insisted on setting up each one every year, even though his parents had dozens. He now carries out the same action at home. As he arranged the nativity scenes two years ago, while holding a wooden figure of a newborn Jesus, he was struck by the words of John 1:14—”And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us…”
It is amazing that our Saviour was born as a child with tiny fingers, a gummy smile, and soft skin. The King of kings came to us as a child, born to a young mother and a carpenter father. His family was turned away at the inn. His first bed was a feeding trough. His first roommate was likely a donkey. Although the animals look cute in the nativity scene, it was probably dirty and smelly in the manger.
Jesus did not show up as a strong warrior or in great glory. Instead, He came as a small, helpless baby. The world’s Hope was in a dirty, stinky manger, which seems almost unbelievable.
Even in the most dire or improbable situations, our God has a history of accomplishing the unbelievable.
It is possible that this year did not turn out as expected. Christmas, however, can serve as a reminder that we can live by faith since the events of this year (and the year before that, and even the year before that) did not surprise God. He is still and always will be the Mighty God, the Lord of lords, and the King of kings.
