2 CHRONICLES 21:4-20; MARK 10:45
A road’s construction foreman’s affection for his family, coworkers, and community caused an enormous sense of loss when he died in an accident. His church was unable to hold all the mourners, so organisers had to move the service to a much larger venue. The auditorium was crowded with friends and family. He made a significant impact on a lot of lives; that much was apparent. Many people would miss his generosity, sense of humour, and zeal for life.
King Jehoram’s brief reign of terror is traced in 2 Chronicles 21. To solidify his power, he killed his brothers and other leaders and led Judah into idol worship. He passed away without regret, believing brute force would ensure his legacy. Jehoram is forever commemorated in Scripture as an evil man and self-centred leader.
Jesus was a king in His own right, but He came to Earth to serve. He put up with the animosity of those who yearned for power while going about doing good. This Servant-King sacrificed His life in the process.
Jesus and His legacy continue to exist today. Those who recognise that life is about more than just themselves are a part of that legacy. It is about Jesus, who yearns to embrace every person who comes to Him in His powerful, forgiving arms.
🙏 Lord Jesus, You did Your Father’s will and served others both during life and in death. Help us to use our lives to help others in some small way today.
