WHAT WE BRING BACK

PSALM 37:1–6, 23–27

For forty years, John F. Burns covered international news for The New York Times. In a post-retirement piece from 2015, Burns quoted a close friend and fellow journalist who was terminally ill with cancer. His colleague said, “Never forget, it is not how far you have travelled; it is what you have brought back.”

I remember as children how we would demand what our parents, uncles, and aunties brought back from their journeys. We cared less about where they went.

Psalm 37, a collection of couplets by David, recounts what he “brought back” from his life journey—from shepherd to soldier and king—contrasting wickedness with righteousness and affirming those who trust in the Lord.

What has God taught us from our experiences in life? How have we known His love and faithfulness? How has the love of the Lord influenced our lives?

What matters is what we have brought back from our life experiences, not how far we have come.

🙏Dear Lord, thank you for walking with us throughout our journeys. May our lives bear good fruits and testimonies.
