1 PETER 4:9
After receiving news of his critical illness and deciding to be away from church, our friend Joel asked who would hug everyone. Joel, a man who makes everyone feel welcome, greets them with a friendly greeting, warm handshake, and even what he calls a “holy hug” based on Romans 16:16, which encourages greetings with a holy kiss.
Joel’s example of open greetings serves as a reminder to offer hospitality without grumbling or in a love-centred manner. Peter emphasises the importance of hospitality, even in the first-century context of offering accommodations to travellers, which always begins with a welcoming greeting. This care for others serves as a reminder to treat others with kindness.
As we engage with others in a loving manner, whether it be by hugging them or simply smiling at them, our Lord, Jesus, is glorified.
🙏 Lord, help your children to represent You to others. Guide them to show hospitality in a way that will show others your love.
