MICAH 5:2–4
“What is the remaining time until my birthday?” My child used to ask this question all the time when he was little. He found the waiting unbearable, even though he used a calendar to count down the days until his birthday.
Waiting is a challenge for all God’s people, as seen in the prophecy of Micah, who promised a ruler over Israel. Jesus was born in Bethlehem after about 700 years of waiting. However, some of the prophecy’s fulfilment is yet to come. We wait in hope for Jesus’ return, when God’s people will live securely and his greatness will reach the ends of the earth. This will bring joy and end our long wait.
Waiting can be challenging, but we can trust God will honour His promise to be with us as we wait (Matthew 28:20). Jesus, born in Bethlehem, introduced life in all its fullness (see John 10:10), and we enjoy His presence today as we eagerly await His return.
🙏Father God, we hope and we wait. We wait, oh Jesus, longing for the dawn of peace. Gentle Spirit, we wait for Your love to be felt by everyone on this earth.
