2 SAMUEL 5:17-25
King David was up against an old adversary. He had fought against Goliath, the greatest Philistine warrior, as a young shepherd boy and killed him with a well-placed stone years ago. Now David was the king of Israel, and the Philistines had returned! They found out he was the ruler and chose to strike (2 Sam. 5:17).
When disaster hits, what do we do first? We might become concerned. We may make preparations. We could start by praying, as David did. David sought the Lord’s guidance (v.19), and God gave it.
David had to confront the Philistines in two battles: Baal Perazim and the Valley of Rephaim. It was good that he sought God’s advice, because the two battles had two different strategies.
We encounter numerous challenges every day and we should always contact God to help us out. We can have faith in Him as He leads us. The honour goes to Him, whether the triumph is achieved through His miraculous assistance or through His counsel.
To handle each challenge, spend time on your knees.
