ROMANS 7:14–25
The great artist Michelangelo left unfinished sculptures, including the Bearded Slave, Atlas Slave, Awakening Slave, and Young Slave, after his death. These sculptures, though seemingly unfinished, depict the feeling of eternal enslavement, as intended by the artist.
Michelangelo created figures stuck in marble, allowing their bodies to emerge but not completely, with muscles flexing but never fully freeing themselves.
These unfinished sculptures’ predicament is comparable to our battle with sin. We are captives of the law of sin at work within us, unable to free ourselves, like sculptures (Romans 7:23). Despite our best efforts, we are unable to alter who we are. But praise be to God, you and I will not remain unfinished. Though we will not be fully completed until we go to heaven, the Holy Spirit transforms us every day as we accept His work in us. According to Philippians 1:6, God will complete the good work He has started in each of us.
🙏 Lord, you are the potter; we are the clay. Continue to work on us.
