1 KINGS 19:1–12
In 1986, Levan Merritt fell into the Jersey Zoo’s gorilla enclosure. A full-grown male silverback named Jambo gently stroked his back, protecting him from other gorillas whom he later led away from the boy. Over thirty years later, Levan still talked about Jambo as his guardian angel.
Elijah, expecting God to act in specific ways. However, He used a gentle whisper to express His heart and presence. Although Elijah had seen God’s power, he didn’t fully understand the One who desires to be known as the greatest and most fearsome of gods.
The Hymn Ancient and Modern 181 states thus:
“God moves in a mysterious way
His wonders to perform:
He plants His footsteps in the sea,
and rides upon the storm…
Judge not the Lord by feeble sense,
but trust Him for His grace;
behind a frowning providence
He hides a smiling face.”
God will not shout if we only need a whisper.
🙏 May God in Heaven, help you to find courage in His whisper, and to know His ways. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
