PSALM 91
Feathers are not the first thing that springs to mind when we think about protection. You may notice more in a bird’s feathers than meets the eye, even if they appear to be a weak kind of defence.
The smooth and fluffy portion of bird feathers is testimony to God’s design. The smooth part locks together like zipper prongs, while the fluffy part keeps birds warm and protects them from wind and rain. However, many baby birds are covered in fluffy down, and their feathers are not fully developed. Mother birds cover these birds with their own feathers to protect them.
In Psalm 91:4 and Ps. 17:8, God’s image of covering us with his feathers symbolises comfort and protection, resembling a mother bird providing a safe retreat from emotional storms.
We can overcome difficulties and heartache with fear as long as we focus on God; He serves as our “refuge” (91:2, 4, 9).
🙏God, help us trust that You are bigger than any fear we have.
