ISAIAH 38:1–8
An ancient clay seal was found in Jerusalem’s Institute of Archaeology. Initially, the seal’s significance was not established until a researcher scrutinised the letters on it, leading to a major discovery. The Hebrew inscription, written in Hebrew, reads, “Belonging to Hezekiah [son of] Ahaz, king of Judah.”
The seal, discovered by archaeologists, features a two-winged sun and two life-symbol images. King Hezekiah used it as a symbol of God’s protection after receiving healing from a life-threatening illness. God heard his prayers and promised to move the sun’s shadow backward (verse 8).
The archaeological artefact serves as a reminder that the Bible’s people learnt to call on the Lord for help, even when His answers are not what we expect. He is compassionate and powerful, as He orders the movement of the sun, and can indeed move in our hearts.
🙏Dear God, You are great and powerful, yet You care for us. Help us to believe in Your power and love, and to seek Your help always.
