TREASURE QUEST

PROVERBS 3:13-14

The Fenn Treasure was a collection of gold and jewels that Forrest Fenn (August 22, 1930 to September 7, 2020), a former pilot in the US Air Force, an art dealer and author from Santa Fe, New Mexico, hid in the Rocky Mountains of the United States. It was found about a decade later (in 2020) in Wyoming, by an anonymous treasure hunter later revealed to be former journalist and medical student Jack Stuef.

The value of the chest was estimated to be as high as $2 million, depending on the appraisal of the items.

Before the treasure was finally discovered, many people had gone in search of it. In fact, four people lost their lives trying to find the hidden riches.

The author of Proverbs gives us reason to stop and ask ourselves: Does any kind of treasure warrant such a quest? Yes – Wisdom!

Wisdom is a virtue that will lead us through life, keep us from stumbling, and crown us with honour. James, also stressed the importance of wisdom – “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy” (James 3:17). When we seek wisdom, our lives flourishes.

To seek wisdom is ultimately to seek God, the source of all wisdom and understanding. And the wisdom that comes from above is worth more than any buried treasure we can ever imagine.
