MATTHEW 13:44
In February 2013, a couple was walking their dog on their private property located in California when they discovered a rusty can partially excavated by recent rains. They took the can home and opened it, discovering a collection of gold coins over a hundred years old. They returned to the spot and located more cans containing 1,427 coins in all. After their discovery, the couple protected their find by hiding it in an old ice chest, burying it under a pile of wood and concealing the location.
The collection of coins (valued at $10 million) is called the Saddle Ridge Hoard, the largest find of its kind in US history.
The story is impressively similar to a parable Jesus told: “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.” (Matthew 13:44)
Discovery of buried treasures rarely happens. But Jesus is talking of a treasure accessible to all who confess their sins and receive and follow Him. The treasure is the Kingdom of Heaven, which is of great value.
How are we treasuring our relationship with God? Have we truly discovered and are we experiencing the benefits of being part of His Kingdom even as we live here on earth?
May this day bring new discoveries our way.
WELCOME TO THE MONTH OF JUNE!
