LUKE 5:12–16
Passengers on a train saw an emotional end to a frightening scene. A 70-year-old woman softly extended her hand to a young man who was frightening other passengers with his threatening remarks. The man collapsed to the train’s floor, tears in his eyes, but was consoled by the lady’s kindness. “Thank you, Grandma,” he murmured, getting to his feet and leaving. The woman acknowledged her fear thereafter. “I am a mother, and he needed someone to touch,” she said. She took a risk on love, even if common sense may have told her to stay away.
Jesus demonstrated compassion by not siding with unnerved onlookers when a desperate man with leprosy begged for healing; instead, He reached out to a man who needed to be touched.
Thankfully, Jesus came to offer the touch of His hand and heart—something that no law could ever provide for that man or for us.
🙏 Lord, help us to touch others.
