LUKE 10:38-11:4
As a boy, I learned to recite the Lord’s Prayer in primary school. The phrase, “Give us this day our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11), reminded me of the bread we only had occasionally at home. Asking God to provide our daily bread was a meaningful prayer for me.
I was intrigued when I later came upon the publication Our Daily Bread. I came to understand that this “bread,” which was full of Scripture passages and practical remarks as I read the booklet on a regular basis, was spiritual fuel for the soul.
Mary chose spiritual food when she listened attentively to Jesus’ words, while Martha focused on physical food. Mary’s time with Jesus, the Bread of Life, is a reminder to take time to listen and nourish our hearts with spiritual nourishment, as He is the Bread that satisfies.
