THE MAN WHO MOVED THE MOUNTAIN

ZECHARIAH 4:1–7

When there is a mountain in your path, what do you do? The story of Dashrath Manjhi, also known as ‘Mountain Man’ or ‘The Man Who Moved the Mountain’ might motivate us. When his wife passed away due to his inability to take her to the hospital for immediate medical attention, Manjhi took the seemingly unthinkable action. In order for other villagers to access the medical attention they required, he spent twenty-two years carving a huge opening in a mountain. Prior to his passing, the Indian government honoured him for his accomplishment.

God sent Zechariah to remind Zerubbabel that the task of rebuilding required more than military strength or resources; he needed to trust in divine aid to overcome obstacles and restore the community (Zachariah 4:6).

When facing a “mountain,” we have two choices: rely on our own strength or trust the Spirit’s power. Trusting the Spirit will either level the mountain or provide us with strength and endurance to climb over it.

🙏Human power is inadequate to accomplish your purposes. Empower us, oh God!
