THE LATE GOLD MEDAL

GENESIS 4:1–12

Canadian cross-country skier Beckie Scott accepted her gold medal from the Olympics in June 2004 at an art gallery in Vancouver. That is intriguing since Utah hosted the Winter Olympics in 2002. Scott took home the bronze behind two competitors who, it was discovered months later, had used banned substances.

Injustice, even minor ones like being denied a medal, is disturbing. Cain and Abel’s story exemplifies ultimate injustice. It could appear that Cain got away with killing his sibling at first glance. He did, after all, live a long and fulfilling life and finally founded a city (Genesis 4:17).

God confronted Cain. God cares deeply about justice, righting wrongs, and defending the powerless. No one gets away with injustice, and faith-based work is rewarded.

🙏Father, let your kingdomcome; your will be done to change this broken world.
