PROVERBS 16:16–22
People are frequently referred to as “legends in their own time” when they attain an exceptionally high degree of recognition or acknowledgement while they are still living. According to a friend who was a professional football player, he encountered a lot of people in the sports industry who were merely “legends in their own minds.” Humility provides a realistic viewpoint, but pride has a tendency to distort our perception of ourselves.
The book of Proverbs warns that pride leads to destruction and a fall. Self-importance distorts our true image.
True humility, coming from God, is the antidote to arrogance. Jesus taught that to be great, one must serve others, just as He did.
It is fine to receive praise for accomplishments, but we should remember to stay humble and focused on following Jesus.
