PSALM 127:1-2
Good health requires a good night’s sleep. We put ourselves at risk of rapid aging, weight gain, and ailments ranging from colds and flu to cancer when we do not get enough sleep. It is nothing short of a miracle what God accomplishes in our bodies while we drift off to dreamland. He restores our energy, refurbishes and heals our cells, and reorganises information in our brains while we do nothing.
There are many reasons for not getting enough sleep, some of which we cannot address, but the Bible suggests that overwork should not be one of them (Ps. 127:2). We should be grateful for the gift of sleep that God has given us. We need to figure out why we are not getting enough. Are we getting up early and staying up late to make money so that we may buy things we do not need? Are we engaged in ministry initiatives that we believe no one else can handle?
We might be tempted to think that the job we accomplish while awake is more important than the work God does while we sleep. Refusing God’s gift of sleep is equivalent to telling Him that our work is more important than His.
Nobody should be a slave to work. God wishes for us to take advantage of the gift of sleep that He has given us.
🙏🏼 Your love is our pillow, soft and healing and wide. Thank You Lord for sleep.
