PHILIPPIANS 4:5
When starting a new book, some people read the last chapter first. They claim that it “reduces the anxiety associated with reading.” As Christians, we can be centers of peace in the middle of absolute chaos, calm in the face of calamity, because we know the end of the story.
In Philippians 4:5, the apostle Paul refers to this mindset as “moderation” (kjv). It is a term that means “peace under pressure.” Kingdoms may fall, friendships may fail, churches may collapse, oceans may swell, and mountains may shatter, but Christians can find peace.
How do we keep our cool? By keeping in mind that the Lord’s return is near. Our Lord is waiting just outside the door, ready to swoop in and right everything that is wrong.
Jesus declared that He will return quickly (Revelation 22:20). It is possible that today could be the day! It was the very last thing He said in the Bible’s final chapter.
The doctrine of the Lord’s return is more directly tied to practical everyday living than any other.
