PROVERBS 6:20-23
Saint Cyprian of Carthage, while talking about the unity of the Church said: “No one can have God for his Father, who has not the Church for his mother.” This may seem like a strange description, but it is true. Indeed, the Church is the bride of Christ who awaits the glorious day when she will be united with Christ.
If we want to know how to live a godly lives, we have two instructors. The first is God speaking through the scriptures. The Word of God finds expression in the choices we make and in the life we then live.
Secondly, we are called to be part of the Church. There, the accumulated knowledge of all those disciples who have gone before us is kept with confidence on our behalf. We are challenged to worship and serve God. We find practical wisdom and aid as we undergo life’s challenges. We see how others live the Word of God in their experience.
So if we want to know how to live as Christians, we look to two main sources: the Bible, the living Word of God; and the Church, a present and organic body that expresses the life of God within a particular community. We do not have to work in isolation to follow Jesus. God has given us guides.
🙏Lord Jesus Christ, help us to live by obeying Your word and within Your Church. Amen.
