PSALM 51
Ceramic repair, known as kintsugi, has been used for generations in Japan. Reinforcing fractures or filling in gaps with a mixture of gold dust and resin creates a visually arresting link. The artist uses brokenness to create something beautiful, rather than trying to hide the repair.
The Bible emphasises the importance of remorse for sins, as demonstrated by David’s repentance after adultery with Bathsheba. The prophet Nathan confronted David, who repented. David’s prayer in Psalm 51 reveals God values a broken spirit and a contrite heart.
God mends our hearts with forgiveness and love when they are broken over sins. He receives us with love when we humble ourselves, restoring closeness.
