TAKING NOTICE

JOB 40:1-14; JOB 38:4

Cleaning a house can be discouraged due to the fact that people hardly notice the clean areas. But remember, the same people will notice dirty places. This raises the philosophical and spiritual question of why humans tend to remember wrong more than right. We tend to remember rudeness more than kindness, crime more than generosity, and disasters more quickly than the beauty around us.

I realise we do the same thing with God, focusing on what He has not done rather than what He has done.

The book of Job highlights the Lord’s disapproval of Job’s conversations. After years of prosperity, he experienced disasters that became his life’s focus. God intervened, reminding Job of His sovereignty and the knowledge he had not yet experienced.

Every time we start to dwell on the bad, let us be reminded to pause, reflect on Job’s story, and observe all the wonderful things God has done and is still doing.
