SWEET SLEEP

PSALM 4

Even though we toss and turn and fluff the pillow, we may not always fall asleep. After presenting some helpful tips, a news report concluded that there is no proper way to sleep.

There are a variety of reasons why sleep eludes us, many of which we have little control over. Agitated thoughts, concern, or remorse can make us stay awake. The example of David in Psalm 4 can then be useful. He cried out to God, pleading with Him to show mercy and to hear his petition. He also reminded himself that when he prays to the Lord, He is heard. David advises us to be still and contemplate in our hearts on our beds (vs.4). Focusing our thoughts on God’s benevolence, mercy, and love for His creation, our loved ones, and ourselves can help us trust Him.

The Lord wants to help us put our worry about finding answers to our problems aside and trust Him to take care of everything. He gives His cherished people sleep (Psalm 127:2).

🙏🏼In the midst of the storms and tempests, dear Lord grant us a spirit of peace, that we may discover calmness within us.
