SWEET COMPANY

JOHN 14:15–26

An old woman in an elderly home did not say anything or ask for anything. She appeared to be doing little more than rocking in her rickety chair. One young nurse used to frequently visit her room during her breaks because she did not have many visitors. She just pulled up another chair and rocked with the woman without trying to persuade her to talk. After a few months, the old woman said to her, “Thank you for rocking with me.” She appreciated the company.

Jesus promised His disciples a constant companion, the Holy Spirit, before returning to heaven (John 14:17). This promise remains valid for believers today, as Jesus stated that the triune God makes His “home” in us (v. 23).

All of our lives, the Lord has been a close and dependable companion. He will lead us through all of our most difficult times, pardon our transgressions, hear every secret prayer, and take up our heavy loads.

We can enjoy His delightful company today.

🙏 Dear Lord, thank You for giving us Your Spirit as our constant companion.
