LUKE 15:1–7
Dave, a friend of mine, told me about the day he made the decision to follow Jesus. Dave had no interest in religion. However, he entered a nearby church one Sunday morning in search of something to cheer up his unhappy spirit. The pastor read Luke 15:1–2 from the King James Version that day: “Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him. And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners and eateth with them.”
It said that, but Dave heard this instead: “This man receives sinners and Dave with them.” In his pew, he sat upright! Recognising his error, he decided to draw near to Jesus and pay attention to Him.
Jesus’ contact with awful and sinful individuals, whom their laws forbade, irritated the religious authorities of his day. Jesus disregarded these rules and gathered these people to Himself.
It is still true, you know: Jesus receives sinners and (your name).
🙏 Heavenly Father, we are so grateful for Your Son’s radical love, which brought us all to Him as moral failures and outcasts and paved the road for us to boldly and joyfully approach You. Help your servants never to forget this.
