REMEMBRANCE STONES

JOSHUA 3:14–4:7; PSALM 105:5

Facebook displays “memories” of past years, such as posts made by us from years back or posts on our timeline. These memories often bring smiles but can also have a profound emotional impact. For instance, a picture of a dead friend from ten years ago reminds us of the loss we faced or God’s faithfulness during challenging times.

We are prone to forget as humans, and we need reminders like the Facebook memories. God’s people, led by Joshua, crossed the Jordan River to their new home. God parted the water, allowing them to walk on dry land. To commemorate this miracle, twelve stones were stacked on the riverbed, and when others asked what the stones meant, they would recount the story of what God had done that day.

We can be encouraged to trust God in the present and the future by tangible reminders of His faithfulness in the past.

🙏God, thank You for Your faithfulness to us over many years! Help us to trust You with the present and the future as well.
