MARK 14:1-9
Mary of Bethany is a biblical figure mentioned by name in the Gospel of John in the New Testament of the Holy Bible. Together with her siblings Lazarus and Martha, she is described by John as living in the village of Bethany, a small village in Judaea to the south of the Mount of Olives near Jerusalem.
Christians of the 5th to 15th century identify Mary of Bethany with Mary Magdalene and with the sinful woman of Luke 7:36-50.
Mary gave Jesus the most precious thing she owned before His death and burial. He noticed the value of her costly gift. Where men saw a fool, Jesus saw a worshiper. What people called a waste, He received as a gift. He saw Mary’s heart. Jesus was so taken by her selfless act that He declared her actions would be proclaimed for all eternity.
We cannot complete the salvation story without remembering Mary. Our generation has a lot to learn from Her when it comes to giving the Lord our best.
