READY FOR HARVEST

JOHN 4:35–38

Thinking back to Jesus’s words to His followers, “I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours” (John 4:38), I relished the abundance of the lovely fruit that had been planted by others years earlier.

God’s generosity allows us to enjoy the fruits of others’ labours, such as sharing the love of Jesus with a friend whose family has been praying for her. Jesus’s words also implies that we may plant seeds we will never harvest but someone else may. This allows us to rest in the tasks before us, not feeling responsible for the outcomes. God’s work does not depend on us, and we are privileged to play a role in it.

What fields are in front of us that are ready to be harvested? May we follow the kind advice of Jesus. “Open your eyes and look at the fields!”

🙏 Lord Jesus, may we be alert to the opportunities to plant and reap the harvest.
