2 TIMOTHY 2:24
He was on Facebook, arguing. What made him think he was obligated to correct a stranger on a hot topic – especially a schismatic one? The results were vehement words, hurt feelings and a broken opportunity to witness well for Christ. That is what “internet anger” can bring.
Paul told Timothy, “The servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient” (2 Timothy 2:24).
Paul’s good counsel, written to Timothy was sent to prepare him for teaching God’s truth. The advice is just as timely for us today, especially when the conversation turns to our faith. Opponents should be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance.
Speaking kindly to others is part of the challenge we must face today. May we speak His truth in love. With every word, the Holy Spirit will help us.
