JOSHUA 7:1-13
Around this time last year, a high school football coach made a tremendous blunder. He dispatched several of his players to scout a future opponent. They returned with the positive news that they could easily win their opponents. They played and lost to the team despite their overconfidence.
Does the story sound familiar? It reminds me of the incident at Ai, when Joshua dispatched scouts who underestimated their adversary’s power.
However, the defeat at Ai was caused by more than poor scouting. The Bible attributes the Israelites’ defeat to sin in the camp. Achan had taken from Jericho’s spoils (Joshua 7:1). They would not be able to overcome Ai until the sin was admitted and the people were sanctified (Joshua 7:16-26). Then God gave them with a strategy for triumph.
Confession of sin and living in the power that God provides is a winning strategy for our daily battles.
🙏🏼 Dear Lord, before we go off into the battle today, forgive us our sins and empower us to live for You. Amen.
