MARK 12:38–44
Jane uses writing to worship and serve God, especially with health issues limiting mobility. When an acquaintance found no value in her writing, she became discouraged and doubted the significance of her offerings. Through prayer, Scripture study, and encouragement, she found that only God could determine her motives and offerings. She asked the Giver of all gifts to continue helping her develop skills and share resources.
Jesus challenged our standards of merit in giving, as seen in Mark 12:41–44. A poor widow, despite her small contribution, was declared greater than the rich, despite her seemingly insignificant contribution to those around her.
Even though the widow’s story primarily concerns finances, any charitable deed can be a manifestation of reverence and obedient love. Similar to the widow, we give gifts to God that are deliberate, kind, and selfless, using whatever He has already given us. We are giving God precious sacrifices of worship when we offer Him the best of our time, talents, or riches with hearts driven by love.
🙏Lord, we give You the best of the gifts You first gave to us, and we are grateful that You never compare us to others.
