PRAISE IN THE DARK

MATTHEW 26:17–30; HEBREWS 13:15

Dave, who is losing his eyesight, expressed his commitment to daily praising God for His immense support.

Dave and all of us have the ultimate reason for such unending gratitude—Jesus. Matthew’s Twenty-sixth Chapter describes how, the evening before He was crucified, Jesus ate the Passover meal with His disciples. After the meal, verse 30 describes their journey to the Mount of Olives after they had sung a hymn.

The Hallel, a group of Psalms sung by Jews at Passover, is a hymn of praise. The last of these prayers, found in Psalms 113–118, honours God, who has become our salvation. It refers to a rejected stone that became a cornerstone and one who comes in the name of the Lord. The hymn encourages joy and gladness, highlighting the significance of salvation.

Jesus’s Passover night singing with His disciples urged us to focus on our immediate circumstances and praise the unending love and faithfulness of God.

🙏Help us to learn to praise you more and more, o Lord.
