PEACE BE STILL

MARK 4:35-41

Frank, a friend of mine, has a beautiful way of putting things into perspective. “How are you today?” I asked him once. I was expecting the usual “fine” response. “I have to wake Him up!” he said instead. “Do you not know your Bible?” he jokingly replied when I inquired what he meant. “When the disciples were in trouble, they ran to wake up Jesus,” he continued. “I am also going to run to Him!”

What do we do when we find ourselves in a difficult place with nowhere to escape? Perhaps, like the disciples stranded in a life-threatening storm, we may try to reach Jesus. However, we might try to get ourselves out of problems by pursuing vengeance, badmouthing the person who caused our situation, or simply hiding in the corner in fear as we sink into despair.

We can learn from the disciples who came to Jesus for rescue. Even if He does not always come to our aid right away, acknowledging that He is in our boat makes a difference! He is always with us in the face of life’s storms, saying, “Peace, be still!” Turn to Him in the midst of your storm and allow Him to fill you with the calm that comes from knowing He is near.

🙏🏼Lord, teach us to run to You in the midst of trouble.
