PSALM 5
When I learnt how to drive, I was also taught some fundamental car care. I learnt that I should check the oil each morning. Years later, I still often reflect on the six-word slogan I was given, “Oil is cheap; engines are expensive.” A quart of oil added is nothing compared to an engine replacement.
Maintaining our spiritual lives is equally crucial. One of the main components of preventing a breakdown is setting aside time each day to read the Bible, pray, and listen to God. David mentions seeking God in the morning in Psalm 5.
Many people believe that starting each day with the Lord is crucial. They take some quiet time by themselves to read a section of the Bible, give God thanks for His greatness, thank Him for His love, and ask for His direction before checking email, watching the news, or having breakfast. Some people read and pray during the day at various times.
As we seek the Lord to fill our hearts with His presence on the journey of life, it is not magic; it is maintenance.
