LUKE 17:11-19
One scorching afternoon, there was heavy traffic, and everybody was stressed. I spotted a car pulling out of a fast-food restaurant driveway with two young men waiting to enter into traffic. The fact that the driver in front of me allowed them in pleased me.
However, the “kind” motorist in front of me became aggressive when he received neither a nod nor even a wave of gratitude. He yelled at the driver he had allowed in. Then he fired his engine, sped up as though to smash into his car and screaming as he did so.
Who was “more wrong”? Did the “kind” driver’s irrational outrage over the young driver’s lack of gratitude warrant it? Was a thank you owed to him?
Without a doubt, Jesus deserves praise for curing the ten lepers. How come just one returned to express gratitude? How can we expect more from others if the King of Kings only received one in ten? It is preferable to perform our deeds for God’s glory and the benefit of others rather than to seek praise. Even when our good deeds go unnoticed, may God’s grace be seen in us.
🙏 Lord, help us to remember that we are not owed any recognition or thanks but that we owe You a lifetime of gratitude for the salvation You offer through Jesus.
