PSALM 142
During childhood, when feeling lonely or rejected, my mother would sing a popular song to me, bringing a smile and helping me appreciate the special relationships and reasons for gratitude I had.
Psalm 142, also known as “David’s cry,” is a song that reflects David’s experiences of fear and loneliness. The lyrics, which include words like “cry” and “complaint,” convey David’s feelings of fainting spirit, a snare, and no concern. Despite his dilemma, David knows the trustworthiness of the One he cries out to and anticipates a day when the righteous will gather around him, ensuring he will not always be desperately lonely. The poetic imagery in the song is authentic and relatable.
When we feel alone, we can, like David, call out to God, giving voice to our emotions in the security of His love. God never downplays our sense of isolation. He desires to accompany us through our life’s shadowy caves. God is concerned about our lives, even when we believe no one is!
🙏 Dear God, you are a friend when your children feel lonely. Thank you for being with your child in his/her dark caves of life.
