NEVER DEFEATED

ROMANS 8:37-39

As a young man, Abraham Lincoln went to war a captain and returned a private. Afterwards, he failed as a businessman, then as a lawyer in Springfield. He turned to politics and was defeated in his first try for the legislature, again defeated in his first attempt to be nominated for congress, defeated in his application to be commissioner of the General Land Office, defeated in the senatorial election of 1854, defeated in his efforts for the vice-presidency in 1856, and defeated in the senatorial election of 1858. At about that time, he wrote in a letter to a friend stating, “I am now the most miserable man living…” But he did not give up, and became the sixteenth President of the United States of America.

Even though sometimes it seems we are losing, with Jesus, defeat is never the end of the story. Despite our disappointments in life, we can make it to success. In fact, we have every reason to press forward and mount our own comeback when it seems everything is at a loss. The eyes of faith always look ahead to a comeback win, as the love of Jesus overcomes every weakness and failure.
