“Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people.” – Eleanor Roosevelt
I try to keep away from people who are more concerned about my affairs than their own. More could be accomplished if people would learn to mind their own business.
From 2 Thessalonians 3:11,12 we may understand better why Paul gave the admonition on minding one’s business – “For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.”
The quiet life Paul talked of contradicts greatly our modern pursuit for entertainment and excitement, which also permits largely that people interfere with other people’s business. Amusement parks, theaters, concert halls, sports arenas, television and social media connections have helped us to dig deep into people’s privacies.
While we are encouraged by scripture to correct people who rebel against God, the Bible does not encourage us to be nosy. Do not stick your nose in on matters that do not concern you, it only creates more problems. Many people want to know others business not to help, but just to have something to gossip about. When our minds are set on Christ, we will not have time to meddle in another person’s business!
