JAMES 2:1–13
When my children were arguing and told me about it, I talked to each of them individually to hear their side. Both were at fault, so I had each suggest a fair punishment for the other. They both wanted a strict punishment. Instead, I gave them the consequences they had suggested for their sibling. Both thought it was unfair when it was directed at them, even though they had approved it for the other.
My children displayed the judgement without mercy that God cautions against (James 2:13). James urges us to love others as ourselves, avoiding favouritism and selfishness. We should show mercy and forgiveness to others, just as we have received from God.
God has freely extended His kindness. Let us keep in mind the mercy He has shown us and show it to others in all of our interactions.
🙏Lord, we are grateful for the great mercy You have shown us. Help us to offer similar mercy to others as a measure of our gratitude to You.
