MARY’S CHRISTMAS

LUKE 1:26-33; 2:4-7, 19

When a scared virgin gave birth to the King of kings, it was not a peaceful night in Bethlehem. With only her fiancé Joseph’s help, Mary endured the pain of childbirth. While angels sang to shepherds nearby, all Mary and Joseph heard were animals and their baby’s cries. The manger was a gloomy place despite a bright star above.

Mary’s heart must have been filled with a mix of awe, agony, terror, and delight when Joseph placed the baby in her arms. She was aware that this little bundle was “the Son of the Highest” (Luke 1:32). In the dim light, she wondered how to raise Him.

In her heart, Mary had a lot to think about that particular evening. Each of us must now, more than 2,000 years later, reflect on the significance of Jesus’ birth as well as His death, resurrection, and promise of His second coming.

🙏 Almighty God, You became a man by lowly, humble birth, and Mary treasured in her heart this gift of boundless worth. May men be turned to You today.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
