JAMES 1:5–6, 12–15
My niece convinced me to play Pokémon Go—a 2016 augmented reality mobile game developed by Niantic in collaboration with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, available on iOS and Android devices. The game aims to capture Pokémon, which are more easily captured using a lure.
It is not just Pokémon characters that can be lured. Jesus’ brother James cautions us in a contemporary epistolary epistle to Christians that we are dragged away by our own evil desire (James 1:14). Put differently, temptation and our desires combine to lead us astray. Our true threat is within, despite the temptation to hold God or even Satan responsible for our troubles.
God understands our human desire to do what is wrong. We can escape temptation by talking to Him about our temptations. We can also ask for the wisdom He promised to provide (James 1:5–6).
🙏 Lord, when we are tempted, show us the door of escape.
