JOB 31:35
It is crucial to develop strong listening and communication skills while dealing with people with challenges. Even just listening to someone in pain can help them feel better. It does work well for assisting others.
Job asked his friends for assistance in this manner. It is true that they sat in silence with him for seven days, but they paid no attention when Job spoke. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to console him. “Oh that one would hear me!” Job cried (Job 31:35).
People do occasionally seek counsel. However, most of the time what they really want is to be loved and listened to.
It takes time and effort to listen. To talk with gentle wisdom. To listen long enough to hear the other person’s true heart.
Oh, Lord, grant us a compassionate and listening heart.
