LESS OF OURSELVES AND MORE OF HIM

PHILIPPIANS 3:1-11

The daughter of a pastor once asked him, “Dad, are we famous?” He replied, “No, we are not famous.” “Well, we would be if more people knew about us,” she responded after giving it some thought.

Poor girl! She was just six years old and she was confronting an issue that many of us face throughout life: Are we being recognised as much as we believe we should be?

If our desire for attention does not have a tendency to take the place of Jesus as the center of our attention, it would not be such an issue. But when we are preoccupied with ourselves, He is ignored.

The attention of life cannot alternate between being on us and on Jesus. The surpassing value of knowing Christ, according to Paul, caused him to regard everything as loss (Philippians 3:8).

We need to reach a conclusion. Do we intend to live to be noticed? Will we instead put our attention on the benefit of having a closer relationship with Jesus? Do our choices bring honour to God or to us?

🙏Help us dear Lord to keep ourselves out of the way as we pursue a deeper walk with You.
