JOHN 20:11-18
Advertisers are aware that the word we react to most strongly is our own name. That explains why our names appear in so many spam emails and social media advertisements. They are trying to get our attention. Having our names used by someone who does not genuinely know us is a bit hollow, regardless of whether those kinds of advertisements are successful for you. When a friend or a loved one calls our name, it is totally different.
When Jesus called Mary Magdalene by name at the empty tomb, she was immediately captivated (John 20:16). She instantly realised the man in front of her was the Teacher she adored and obeyed with that one word. She was persuaded that her Saviour had risen from the dead by the way He uttered her name – as someone who knew and loved her.
The story of God has not changed. Jesus is aware of us and loves us. He bestows His Spirit upon us and addresses us by name. He is mindful of all those He Loves and calls them by name (see John 10:14-15).
