PSALM 1
I am yet to meet someone whose life was completely ruined because he or she followed God’s commands. Yet, in an age when personal freedom is celebrated as an inalienable right, discussion of conforming our lifestyle to God’s ways is frequently regarded as an infringement. And anyone who speaks out in support of God’s boundaries is deemed to be out of bounds. But, in this frenzy for liberty, it should not be overlooked that our society is increasingly marked by a haunting sense of meaninglessness and despair.
God’s people should have a different point of view on boundaries. We, like the psalmist, must realise that a blessed life stems from taking pleasure in the Lord’s law (Psalm 1:2).
Let us remember God’s loving purpose in erecting fences the next time we are tempted to cross them. We should choose to thank God for the boundaries and how they protect and bless us.
