EZRA 5:7-17
“Keep calm and carry on.” As World War II broke out in 1939, this message was common in Great Britain. In order to combat fear and discouragement throughout the war, British officials printed it on posters.
The Israelites had to face their own anxiety and enemy interference when they started to construct the temple after returning to the homeland of Israel from captivity. Israel’s adversaries sent accusing letters to officials in order to put the project on hold. However, King Darius eventually made a proclamation allowing them to finish the temple (Ezra 6:12-14).
Because we are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, like the Israelites, we can confidently continue when we are working for God and experience difficulties (Ezra 5:11). We may be discouraged by obstacles and delays, but we can take comfort in Jesus’ promise that He will establish His church and that all the forces of Satan will not be able to overpower it (Matthew 16:18). God’s power (not ours) makes His work possible.
