IT IS NOT ME

1 PETER 4:7–11

During vacation, he grew a beard, receiving compliments from friends and co-workers. One day, however, he looked at the beard and decided, “It is not me.” So out came the razor.

Individual differences and preferences exist in our personalities, as they are uniquely and “wonderfully made” by God. Peter highlights the role of each person’s unique gifts.

When Jesus’s disciples entered His world, they did not check their character traits at the door. The night Jesus was arrested, Peter was impulsive and chopped off the ear of a servant. Thomas was adamant about proof before accepting the resurrection of Christ. Instead of rejecting them because they still needed to grow, the Lord shaped and formed them for His service.

To serve the Lord effectively, it is important to consider our talents and characteristics and sometimes admit, “It is not me.” God may push us out of our comfort zone to develop our unique gifts, and we honour His creative nature by allowing Him to use us as we are.

🙏 Father, we are grateful for the remarkable uniqueness you have given each of us. I’m grateful for my character and my skills. Help me to use them for your purposes.
