INTERRUPTIONS

MARK 5:21-42; PSALM 33:11

Let us begin today with two stories about interruptions.

i) A herd of elephants once took over a camp and the people’s lunch was postponed as they ran for safety.

ii) We were eager to spend our vacation in Lagos with my brother. Both our travel and lodging arrangements had been made. However, I was informed that I needed to stay at home to address a crisis one week prior to the trip. We were disappointed since our plans had to change.

From today’s text, Jesus was going with His disciples on a crucial mission when it was cut short. The synagogue leader, Jairus’ daughter was about to pass away. Jesus was on His way to their house, and time was of the essence. Jesus stopped abruptly to look for the person who had touched Him.

This seemed to annoy the disciples, who then reminded Him that a crowd was pressing in on Him. However, Jesus saw it as a chance to help a suffering woman.

Jesus was conversing with the woman when Jairus’ daughter passed away. It seemed like it was too late. Jairus, however, was able to understand Jesus and His power, including power over death, even more deeply as a result of the delay.

Sometimes, God can use our disappointment for His purposes.

Your next interruption can serve a purpose – look for it.
