IN EVERY GENERATION

PSALM 100

When children fail to emulate their parents’ level of religious faith, it can be surprising. It is equally surprising when a devoted follower of Christ comes from a non-religious home. Each individual has a choice in every generation.

Samuel, a mighty man of God, appointed his two sons, Joel and Abijah, as Israel’s leaders (1 Samuel 8:1-2). However, unlike their father, they were corrupt and turned away for dishonest gain, accepted bribes, and distorted justice (v. 3). However, we discover Heman, Joel’s son, being appointed as a musician in the Lord’s house years later (1 Chronicles 6:31–33). Samuel’s grandson Heman and Asaph, who was his right-hand man and wrote many of the psalms, both served the Lord by singing joyful songs (15:16–17).

God is still at work, even when a person appears indifferent toward the faith that was so important to their parents. Later on, things might change, and future generations might sow seeds of faith.

Whatever the circumstances within the family, we know that the Lord is gracious; His mercy endures forever, and His truth stands the test of time.

πŸ™πŸ»Dear Lord, help us to remember that You are the one who causes the seed of faith to grow.
